Juvenile Deliquency in Türkiye

Abstract

The involvement of children in criminal activities is a matter of significant concern, given that they are the most vulnerable members of society. Children, like other individuals, are entitled to certain rights, and when these rights are infringed, there can be significant consequences. Crimes involving children may result in the violation of their rights and compromise their safety and well-being. Children who are dragged into crime frequently originate from disadvantaged social groups and are more prone to becoming involved in criminal activities as a consequence of social inequalities. Social justice and equality can be seriously hampered by this. There is a general commitment to protect children and ensure their rights around the world, with a particular focus on Europe. Efforts have been made to address children’s involvement in crime through the development of policies and programs in the European Union and other countries. This study aims to analyze the practices in Türkiye and globally regarding juvenile delinquency. The study’s significance lies in its ability to provide insights on the necessary policies to reduce the number of children who are victims of crime in Türkiye, within the context of global practices. In order to prevent children from becoming involved in criminal activity, it is necessary to identify and address the factors that contribute to their involvement in crime.
