“…Chronic keratic precipitates and posterior synechiae were found in 38.09% and 42.85%, respectively, of cases. In addition, posterior synechiae were found in 42.85% of cases, which is in agreement with the data reported by others (29% -52% [19,25,27]). “…13 Calcific band keratopathy, a chronic degenerative condition characterized by the deposition of grayish opacities in the superficial layers of the cornea, most frequently in the interpalpebral zone, may also be a feature of systemic inflammatory conditions, especially juvenile idiopathic arthritis. 29,30 A recent retrospective cohort study showed that band keratopathy is one of the most common ocular complications in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis together with cataract and posterior synechia. 30 Accumulation of calcium can cause irritation, photophobia, recurrent corneal erosions, and depending on the extension, can result in significant glare and decreased vision.…”

Various modalities have been used in the treatment of band keratopathy, the most popular being, mechanical debridement, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid chelation, and phototherapeutic keratectomy.…”
