The Universitas Sumatera Utara has various types of trees scattered in the surrounding environment. Swietenia macrophylla, Mimusops elengi and Polyalthia longifolia are the three most common tree species found on campus. To maximize the potential for utilizing tree species on the Universitas Sumatera Utara campus, several efforts can be made, one of which is by exploring the presence of cellulolytic fungi. Cellulolytic fungi are fungi that are able to hydrolyze cellulose which can produce cellulase enzymes. This study aims to obtain the potential and identify cellulolytic fungi from the soil under Swietenia macrophylla, Mimusops elengi and Polyalthia longifolia stands. Sampling was taken by making 3 plots on each type of stand measuring 20 m x 20 m with a soil depth of 0 – 20 cm. In each plot, 5 sampling points were made. The soil taken from each type is then composed. Isolation of cellulolytic fungi was carried out using Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (CMC) media. The potenstial of cellulolytic fungi is obtain by calculating the cellulolytic index. All isolates obtained were identified morphologically down to the genus level. The result showed that the potency of the cellulolytic fungi ranged from 0.05 to 1.36. The identification results that the isolates included the genus Aspergillus and Trichoderma.

Gemawang Village, Ngadirojo District, Wonogiri Regency, Central Java Province is home to one of the cashew (Anacardium occidentale L.)-based agroforestry operations. In agroforestry management, plants are one of the factors that can impede cashew production growth. To determine the success of weed control, it is necessary to first acquire an understanding of weed species. There were 2 stations in this study, namely cashew-based agroforestry ecosystem stations and teak monoculture ecosystems.This study assessed the composition, dominance, and prospective use of weed vegetation in cashew-based agroforestry areas. The point-intercept method and exploration of weed vegetation varieties in agroforestry station constitute the research methodology. As a comparison station, this study was also conducted on teak monocultures that are commonly found at research sites.The quadratic form measuring 1 m x 1 m with 100 grids of 12 plots at each station was utilised to collect weed samples. Composition and dominance of species in agroforestry and monoculture were found to be distinct. 24 species from 12 families are used in agroforestry, while 12 species from 7 families are used in monoculture. The dominant invasive species in agroforestry is Ageratum conyzoides L. (34.39%), while in monoculture it is Synedrella nodiflora Gaertn (37.78%). The weed vegetation diversity index value in agroforestry and monoculture was 1.90 and 1.51,respectively, which is considered moderate. In contrast, the value of the Sorensen uniformity index, which was 36.84%, was considered to be low. Up to 26 species of vegetation have the potential to contribute to human survival.

The Hibiscus genus is a member of the Malvaceae family with striking flowers of various colors. Hibiscus is a genus that is easy to find in Indonesia because it is usually used as an ornamental plant, hedge plant, cut flower, medicinal plant, or tea for drinking. This research was conducted to know the phenetic relationship of 6 species of Hibiscus based on morphological characters. The research was conducted by observing 57 morphological characteristics of 6 species of Hibiscus, then UPGMA (Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmatic Mean) analysis using MEGA 11 software. The samples in this study were six species belonging to the Hibiscus genus, namely Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L., Hibiscus tiliaceus L., Hibiscus macrophyllus (Blume) Okenlada, Hibiscus mutabilis L., Hibiscus sabdariffa L., and Hibiscus acetosella Welw. ex Hiern. The results showed that 6 species of Hibiscus formed 3 clusters based on differences in habitus and stem diameter. H. tiliaceus and H. macrophyllus formed cluster one, H. acetosella and H. sabdariffa formed cluster two, while H. rosa-sinensis and H. mutabilis formed cluster three. The closest phenetic relationship is between H. acetosella and H. sabdariffa, with a dissimilarity index of 0.140 or 86% similarity. The furthest phenetic relationship was in H. rosa-sinensis and H. macrophyllus with a dissimilarity index of 0.737 or a similarity percentage of 26.3%.
