The discourse on developing Kuala Bubon mangrove forest area in West Aceh as an ecotourism location has received a lot of sympathy and support among the community, considering that this forest has a high level of diversity of flora and fauna, one of which is bird species. In several ecotourism locations, birds attract tourists by enjoying various entertainment related to birds, such as bird watching, tours of bird habitats, and observing birds in the wild. The research was carried out in the Kuala Bubon mangrove forest, West Aceh, in September 2023. This research used a quantitative approach, calculating the level of diversity and mapping distribution based on bird location coordinates. The data collection method uses the point count and line transect method. Analysis of bird species diversity data using the Shannon-Wienner Diversity Index (H') formula was then carried out by mapping the coordinates of bird presence using the Quantum Gis software. The research results obtained 37 bird species from 22 families with a diversity index of 3.07 (high diversity), two species with the status of Near Threatened (Aegithina Viridissima) and Vulnerable Under (Acridotheres javanicus). Mapping bird species diversity with Quantum Gis provides opportunities for developing bird ecotourism, such as planning optimal bird-watching routes after knowing the distribution of bird species.

Birdwatching merupakan wisata pengamatan burung di alam bebas. Penelitian aspek penawaran telah banyak dilakukan, namun penelitian aspek permintaan masih sangat terbatas termasuk nilai willingness to pay (WTP). Penelitian bertujuan untuk menganalisis nilai WTP birdwatcher di Indonesia. Penelitian dilakukan pada Februari sampai Mei 2020 menggunakan kuesioner tertutup secara online dengan responden dari seluruh Indonesia. Nilai WTP dihitung dengan travel cost method (TCM) dari 1.062 responden yang mengisi kuesioner lengkap. Nilai rerata nilai WTP untuk setiap aspek adalah Rp 2.577.872,00 (aspek peralatan), Rp 1.482.257,00 (aspek perlengkapan khusus), Rp 1.772.410,00 (aspek transportasi), Rp 868.738,00 (aspek penginapan), Rp 918.832,00 (aspek makan dan minum), serta Rp 622.881,00 (aspek pemanduan). Proporsi nilai WTP paling tinggi adalah aspek perlengkapan (31%), sementara paling rendah adalah aspek biaya pemandu (8%). Nilai WTP meningkat seiring jarak lokasi tujuan birdwatching dari domisili. Semakin jauh tujuan maka nilai WTP juga semakin tinggi. Nilai WTP paling rendah adalah tujuan lingkungan rumah sebesar Rp 2.114.286,00 dan nilai paling tinggi adalah tujuan luar negeri sebesar Rp 23.583.333,00. Nilai total WTP untuk setiap individu birdwatcher adalah sebesar Rp 8.243.690,00.

The development of avitourism in villages around the conservation area still needs optimal support to increase welfare and reduce illegal practices like bird hunting. Birds are wild animals that play an essential role in the ecosystem. One of the efforts that have been developed in the buffer village to improve the welfare community and the conservation of birds is avitourism. This study aimed to analyze birds that have the potential as objects and attractions in avitourism. The bird species recorded were 82 species from 39 families. The results of key informants’ perception analysis revealed that 55 bird species (67.07%) have the potential as objects and attractions of avitourism, showing the nocturnal birds, top 50 birds of Way Kambas National Park, and parrot species as the top classification (> 75%). The colorful, raptor, and protected criteria are second with the favorite classification (51-75%). Endemic and migrant criteria are in the third position with the impressive classification (25-50%), and the songbird criteria are the lowest with the interesting classification (< 25%). The existence of birds that have the potential as objects and attraction of avitourism in the villages around Way Kambas National Park indicates that areas can be used in locations for avitourism, including bird photography, to improve welfare.
