Key performance indicators for the evaluation of RFID-enabled B-to-B e-commerce applications: the case of a five-layer supply chain

Abstract: This paper attempts to track key performance indicators in order to assess the impacts of RFID technology in a five layer supply chain in the utility sector. Findings point to some performance improvements especially when RFID enables more integrated and more collaborative B-to-B e-commerce solutions. The research design involves multiple units and levels of analysis, and relies on diverse data collection methods and generates a vast amount of data. The concept of a living laboratory proved to be an insightful… Show more

“…A value chain perspective (Porter 1985) is adopted since RFID adoption and usage is mainly product-driven (Bendavid et al 2009) and involves the study of the impacts of RFID on the interdependent activities related to the management of telecommunications stationary batteries of a specific TPL supply chain (Fig. 2).…”

“…Also, Karkkainen & Holmstrom (2002) highlighted the importance of integrating RFID technology with IOS to achieve end-to-end supply chain visibility. In the same line of thought and Bendavid et al (2009) underscore the importance of seamless integration of RFID technology with intra-and inter-organizational processes and systems to reduce inefficiencies in the supply chain, and facilitate more collaborative practices.…”
