Key Techniques and Advances of Grinding/Milling Spiral Flutes on NC Machines with Multi-Axis Linkage

Abstract: Introduced systematically the forming principles and mathematical modeling of grinding/ milling spiral flutes with numeric control machines, overviewed the functions of multi-axis linkage and the determination technique of the number of the linkage axes, discussed the conversion technique of NC—STEP-NC code in programming with EXPRESS, presented advances of controlling systems with high performance. Much attention was paid to the explanation of the error modeling and the tool interference in the real machining… Show more

“…Nowadays the common methods for modeling are (1) Wire-frame method [1,2], for the paperless design with vertexes, segments between any two of the vertexes, and patches consisting of several segments that form a area, workable for only plain objects. (2) Patch connection method [3,4]. Coons, Bezier, B-spline, or even NURBS patches are adopted, and most of the applications go to the covering components of the automobiles and aircraft.…”

“…At present, there has not been a unified mathematical model available to express the relationship of movement synthesis for all spiral surfaces forming movement. Because of the complexity of forming movement and diversity of spiral surface, the promotion and application of spiral surfaces for engineering is restricted to some extent [1][2][3]. Many experts and scholars have done a lot of researches on establishment of mathematical model for spiral surface and have gained some progress [4][5][6][7][8].…”
