Kinematic Analysis of a 3-Axis Parallel Manipulator: The P3

Abstract: This paper presents kinematic analysis of a 3-axis parallel manipulator, called P3. The P3 parallel manipulator is developed based on a 3-PRRU parallel mechanism, where P denotes prismatic pair, R revolute pair, and U universal joint. The P3 parallel manipulator can undergo two rotations and one translation without parasitic motion. First, a brief description of the P3 is presented. Then, forward and inverse kinematic solutions of the P3 are derived. Parasitic motion is discussed. The Jacobian matrix is obtain… Show more

“…So far, many lower-mobility PKMs have been successfully applied in industry, such as Delta [15], Tricept [16], and Sprint Z3 tool head [17]. Among them, a very important category is the 1T2R PKMs, especially the 3-PRS, 3-SPR, and 3-RPS PKMs [18,19]. Besides, in our previous researches [4,20,21], a five-axis machining robot called DiaRoM in the configuration of 4SPU-SPR is proposed [4].…”

“…In the literature, there are several studies investigating the singularities of PMs which have the same motion chracteristics. For a 3-PRRU PM (the P3 Robot) the singularity analysis is performed in [2] by evaluating the determinants of the Jacobian matrices. The singularity conditions were issued in [6] by obtaining the Jacobian matrices of a 3-PSP PM.…”
