Measuring errors caused by deformation (flattening) of a measured object appear under the influence of pressure force and weight of the measured object. Plastic strain, arising at the contact of a measured object and an undeformable contact tip of a measuring device, can be calculated by applying the Hertz plastic solution and the hypothesis of plastic strain. In a small area of contact between two bodies pressing against one another with force F, there appears the so-called contact stress. It can sometime reach very high values, exceeding the yield point, even when the contact pressure is relatively small. In the present work, the authors describe a theoretical solution to the problem of plastic strain between two bodies. The derived relationships enable to calculate force F during measurements of a deformable object by means of an instrument with an undeformable, spherical measuring tip. By applying the τmax hypothesis, a solution was obtained for the force F in an inexplicit form. The theoretical solution was verified with the digital simulation and experimental measurement. With the FEM method, the limit length gage was modeled in interaction with the measured shaft of a diameter d larger than the nominal one of Δl value.

In this paper, we propose a method based on the surfaces enveloping theory developed as a vertical application in the CATIA graphical design environment. This method is created for profiling tools intended to generate cylindrical helical surfaces with constant pitch. The devised method is applicable for the profiling of disc tools which are bounded by a primary peripheral surface of revolution.A few examples for the determination of the tool's 3D primary peripheral surface are presented such as helical flutes of cutting tools, worms with wide pitches, and gear involute flanks. The results are presented in both graphical and tabular form for completeness. Screen snapshots of the CATIA-based vertical application are also shown.

Abstract. The method of generating the gear tooth with a rack tool is applied on MAAG machine tools. Their specific cutting scheme leads to an irregular energetic loading of the tool cutting edge, during the rolling process. In this paper, we present a new method for analyzing the energetic load along the cutting edges of the rack shaped cutter, based on graphical modelling of the cutting process performed in CATIA. The energetic load smoothing is proposed to be obtained by finding an appropriate variation law for the circular feed communicated to the workpiece by toothing machine kinematical chain, during the rolling motion that permanently respects the rolling condition established between the centrodes attached to both tool and workpiece. A numerical solution in a concrete case of analysis is also included.
