Kinetic Study of Humic Acid Ozonation in Aqueous Media

Abstract: A pseudo first-order kinetic model that describes the ozonation of two sources of humic acid (HA) in aqueous media is developed and investigated in a semi-batch system. Further investigation shows that the degradation rates of the two HAs are highly dependent on the initial pH, temperature of the ozonation, the source of HA, and the overall kinetic rate constant, which is mainly composed of two parts, i. e., direct oxidation by molecular ozone and indirect oxidation by hydroxyl radicals (9OH). The contribution… Show more

“…Tert-BuOH was found to be practically inert toward ozone (kO 3 = 3 × 10 -3 M -1 s -1 ), while it acts as an OH• scavenger (kOH ≤ 6 × 10 8 M -1 s -1 ) and inhibits the chain reaction between radicals and HAs. Additionally, 50, 100, and 250 mL L -1 of TBA was added to the aqueous solutions to extinguish OH• for the investigation of reaction rates of the HA ozonation direct pathway [44]. The DOC amount which is composed of TBA was eliminated in the DOC analyzes.…”

“…[14] Ozone and the hydrophobic DOM reacted in two pathways (ozone and hydroxyl radical (OH • )), which resulted in the formation of the hydrophilic DOM fractions. [14,32,41,42] These OH • radicals react with all DOM fractions quickly, converting aromatic compounds and double bonds into hydrophilic DOM such as aldehydes, alcohols, and carboxylic acids. [33,41] Ozone, on the other hand, is more reactive with functional groups that are electron-rich, such as activated aromatic structures and unsaturated hydrocarbon bonds.…”

“…2 The non-contact dust removal solution uses high-pressure airflow generated by tools such as air knives and pneumatic nozzles to remove impurities and dust adhering to PCBs, and collects the raised dust and other pollutants by setting up dust-absorbing devices using the principle of negative pressure, but the air knives used as dust-blowing tools are too large in size, have limitations in installation location, and the number of nozzle openings is too large causing large air loss, and the dust removal angle is mostly fixed and cannot meet the dust-blowing needs of complex structure spaces. 3–5…”
