Kinetics of Nanoparticle Reassembly Mediated by UV-Photolysis of Surfactant

Abstract: Real-time reassembly of an ordered nanoparticle monolayer due to UV-photolysis of the surfactant shell of nanoparticles was observed. The technique of grazing-incidence small-angle X-ray scattering provided the possibility to track in situ the nanoparticle pair correlation function of the sample processed in a UV-ozone reactor. The analysis revealed a total shift of approximately 1 nm of the nanoparticle nearest-neighbor distance. The temporal evolution of the interparticle distance proved to be the first-orde… Show more

“…The nanoparticle Langmuir film at the end of stage II is suitable for the transfer onto a solid substrate to deposit a high-quality nanoparticle monolayer over large area as we documented by the scanning electron microscopy. 27 We can compare this stage to the liquid-expanded phase of the molecular Langmuir films. 9 In stage III, we observe a steeper increase in the surface pressure followed by a maximum in the surface elastic modulus.…”

“…However, in BHJ-Fe 3 O 4 W/H, a diffraction peak along Q y direction is located at 0.08 Å −1 , which indicates an ordered, self-assembled Fe 3 O 4 MNPs was formed (see Fig. 5B ) 35 . Moreover, the value of 0.08 Å −1 corresponds to an interparticle spacing of 76.6 Å, where Q y is a component of scattering vector.…”

“…The raw materials fro m which this high performance technical grade ceramic is made are readily available and reasonably priced, resulting in good value for the cost in fabricated alu mina shapes. [6] A lu miniu m o xide, co mmon ly referred to as alu mina, possesses strong ionic interato mic bonding giving rise to it 's desirable material characteristics. It can exist in several crystalline phases which all revert to the most stable hexagonal alpha phase at elevated temperatures.…”
