Kinetics of scandium ion sorption onto oxidized carbon nanotubes

Abstract: The present study investigates the sorption behavior of oxidized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (CNTs-COOH) for the separation and removal of scandium ions from aqueous solutions. The results indicated that CNTs-COOH showed an excellent scandium adsorption capacity of 40.1 mg g −1 (at pH 3) with an uptake time less than 2 min. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the film diffusion are the main controlling factors.Publisher's Note Springer Nature remains neutral with regard to jurisdictional claims in publi… Show more

“…At present, there are many modi ed substances that can improve the adsorption effect of adsorbents, such as graphene oxide (Ashour et al 2017;Li et al 2021), carbon nanotubes (Pegier et al 2019;Alguacil et al 2020) and so on, but these materials are generally expensive, and the prepared adsorbents are not cost-effective. Therefore, our current goal is to modify BC aerogel with low-cost raw materials to reduce the preparation cost while maintaining the high adsorption capacity of Dy(III) (Liao et al 2018).…”

“…However, this remains a significant challenge as an explicit dependence of ion–pore interaction on the specific pore size and ion type has not been included in conventional continuum models . For example, in the case of passive adsorption in carbon-based materials in the absence of an electric field, the kinetics has been described using simple kinetic or Langmuir-type equilibria models with empirical parameters that do not have a direct physical interpretation.…”
