Kısa Süreli PRID Uygulanan Düvelerde Bazı Oksidatif Stres Parametrelerinin Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of short term administration of PRID on the levels of serum progesterone, nitric oxide (NO), malondialdehyde (MDA), total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and total oxidant capacity (TOC) in heifers. This purpose, 200 heifers were synchronized with the Cosynch-72 protocol in which progesterone was administered for 5 days. Blood was taken from the heifers 10 days prior to starting synchronization (day -10), the day the PRID was attached (day 0), the day the PRID… Show more

“…Oxidative stress is a serious problem which is being studied extensively in human and animals, especially in cattle, sheep and goats in conditions of sepsis, mastitis, metritis, retentio secundinarum and genital tract inflammation [6,19] . There are few studies about fertility and the oxidative stress created by P4 sources used intravaginally for estrus synchronization in small ruminants [4,8] .…”

“…These inserts are left in the vagina and can cause tissue damage and inflammation [5] . As a result, such applications can create stress for the animal [6] . A complex relationship has been reported between inflammation and reactive oxygen species (ROS) [7] .…”

“…In the case of inflammation or various infections, antioxidant defense gets weakens, and increased reactive oxygen species react with macromolecules, including proteins, lipids and DNA; and ultimately, lead to oxidative damage [8,23,24] . In the current study, parameters of oxidative stress were measured to determine the severity of the cellular damage and the effectiveness of the treatment likewise reported formerly [5,6,25] .…”

“…Cells and tissues have antioxidant systems that inhibit radical products and reactions. Studies have demonstrated altered total oxidant (TOC) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC), or oxidative stress index (OSI) in case of local and systemic inflammation or infection [5,7,8] .…”
