“…It is unclear whether there is a significant difference in fusion rates between one- or two-stage external fixator because of the variability of selection criteria for knee arthrodesis between studies 23. Some authors suggest that staged external fixator should always be used in an attempt to eradicate multimicrobial or virulent infection where there is extensive bone loss 23. We are also a strong believer of two staged technique especially in patients with moderate to severe bone stock deficiency and 4B type of hosts according to Cierney-Mader classification.…”
