Knockdown of circular RNA UBAP2 inhibits the malignant behaviours of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma by microRNA‐422a/Rab10 axis

Abstract: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a major type of esophageal cancer, accounting for about 90% of cases. Circular RNA UBAP2 (circUBAP2) is involved in the progression of several types of cancers. However, the role of circUBAP2 in ESCC remains unclear. In the present study, circUBAP2 expression was found to be upregulated in ESCC tumour tissues. Knockdown of circUBAP2 through infection with lentiviral vector encoding shRNA targeting circUBAP2 (sh-circUBAP2) inhibited the proliferation, migration and i… Show more

“…circUBAP2 is a well-known tumor-associated circRNA. Wu et al (16) indicated that circ-UBAP2 promoted the malignant behaviors of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma via the miR-422a/Rab10 axis. Zhao et al (17) found that circUBAP2 modulated pancreatic adenocarcinoma by regulating the infiltration and function of immune cells.…”

“…Some circRNAs have already been considered as tumor-associated circRNAs, such as CDR1as, circUBAP2 and circPTV1 (14). Among these, circUBAP2 has been reported as a critical regulator involved in the progression of several types of cancer, such as ovarian cancer, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and pancreatic adenocarcinoma (15)(16)(17).…”

“…In this study, we focused on a new circRNA, circUBAP2 (hsa_circ_0003496), that functions in the trophoblast cell line HTR-8/SVneo and choriocarcinoma cell line JEG-3. circRNAs originate from the UBAP2 (ubiquitin-associated protein 2) gene, which includes hsa_circ_0003496 and has been reported to be upregulated in a variety of tumors [17][18][19]. However, it has not been reported in pregnancy-related diseases.…”

“…Recent studies have found that the expression of Circ UBAP2 was up-regulated, which promoted the proliferation, migration and invasion of ESCC. Further studies on the mechanism have proved that circ UBAP2 might play the role of oncogenes by regulating the miR-422a/Rab10 axis of ESCC [55]. Compared with paracancerous tissues, the expressions of hsa_circ_0067934, circFNDC3B, circ-TTC17, hsa_circ_0006168, circPVT1 and hsa_circ_100873 were significantly up-regulated in EC tissues [39,40,42,43,56,57].…”
