The number of patients in need of life-saving organ transplants continues to exceed the number of available. One of the most important factors influencing peoples’ practices and rates of organ donation is their attitude and beliefs toward it. However, there is no validated comprehensive instrument that evaluates peoples’ attitudes toward organ donation. Thus, this study aimed to develop and validate such tool. A questionnaire was prepared after reviewing literature. The initial items (n = 45) were evaluated by 15 nonexperts pilot to verify face validity, then content validity was established by three experts, and construct validity was established by Exploratory Factorial Analysis. Afterward, internal consistency was checked using Cronbach’s alpha analysis. Eventually, a total of 31 items were included in the questionnaire, distributed on four subscales. According to the results, we found that the Public Attitude toward Organ Donation questionnaire has adequate validity and reliability to assess the peoples’ attitudes toward organ donation.

Background: Nowadays, the transplantation of organs, tissues, and cells is a popular medical technique, but it still raises conflicting opinions in society. Objectives: The study aimed to analyze the knowledge and attitudes of students of the Medical University of Lodz regarding legal aspects in the field of organ transplantation. Material and methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted from March to May 2024 as part of a bachelor’s thesis. The study involved 274 undergraduate and graduate students at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Medical University of Lodz. The anonymous survey consisted of two parts: the first part contained questions about general knowledge about the legal aspects of transplantation and attitudes toward transplantation, and the second part of the questionnaire included questions about socio-demographic data (gender, education, degree of studies, and place of residence). Results: The level of students’ knowledge in the field of transplantology is average. Almost all respondents (95%) stated that society needs knowledge about transplantation. About 70% of students would consent to having their organs harvested after death to save the lives of other people. A similarly high result (73%) concerns becoming a living donor for a loved one. The large majority (81%) of respondents supported harvesting organs from deceased persons and transplanting them to other people to save lives. A greater chance of having high knowledge about transplantation was observed among female students (OR = 4.32; p < 0.001) and students living in large cities (OR = 3.92; p < 0.01) and small towns (OR = 5.2; p < 0.01). Conclusions: There is a need to promote ideas and knowledge in the field of transplantology among students of medical universities as future healthcare workers.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate attitudes toward death among older adults in Malaysia's Klang Valley and to identify the social factors that influence these attitudes. Theoretical framework: The study was based on the theoretical framework that death attitudes can have a significant impact on the physical and mental health of the elderly, as well as on their acceptance of care and quality of death. Method/design/approach: A cross-sectional survey was conducted, involving 165 older adults in Malaysia's Klang Valley. The study used nonparametric tests to investigate the social factors that influence attitudes toward death in the elderly. Results and conclusion: The study found that the various dimensions of death attitudes among older adults in Malaysia are influenced by one or more factors, including the number of illnesses, discussions about life and death, marital status, and income. These findings contribute to expanding knowledge about death attitudes among older adults and provide a reference for understanding attitudes toward death in the elderly. Research implications: The study has important implications for healthcare providers and policy makers who work with older adults, as it highlights the need to consider social factors that may influence attitudes toward death and end-of-life care. The findings also suggest the need for more research in this area to better understand and address the attitudes and needs of older adults as they approach the end of their lives.
