Abstract:Pit and fissure sealants (FS) (ultraviolet-activated, auto polymerized or light-cured resin-based [RB] sealants and glass ionomer cement [GIC] sealants) were first developed in the 1970s and 1980s, and their effectiveness in preventing caries has now been established by randomized clinical trials. Some evidence has also accumulated to indicate that RB sealants have higher retention rates than GIC sealants. [6]
