Knowledge, attitudes and practices towards COVID-19 guidelines among students in Bangladesh

Abstract: This paper explores the level of knowledge, attitudes and practices towards COVID-19 guidelines among the students in Bangladesh. In achieving this objective, this paper used primary data collected from 1822 students wherein three different Likert scales and a one-way ANOVA test were used to assess knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) scores as well as mean differences with respect to different variables. This research reveals that the majority of students had a higher level of knowledge and a positive at… Show more

“…In a study, Kumar et al ( 2021 ) had argued about the KAP addressing the guidelines among the students of Bangladesh. Similarly, in another study conducted in Bangladesh, Ferdous et al ( 2020 ) have argued that the awareness in the general public and control measures could radically influence the KAP toward COVID-19.…”

“…As Andrade et al ( 2020 ) and Zhong et al ( 2020 ) have argued that the population should follow the preventive measures given by local authorities to combat the pandemic and minimize its effect on the general public's health. For an effective introduction of COVID-19 about adequate prevention, people must be timely made aware of the fundamental principles regarding its severity, challenges, and the grave consequences it can offer (Andrade et al, 2020 ; Kumar et al, 2021 ; Rizwan et al, 2021 ). In this study, the use of KAP theory addresses that when the people are given due knowledge they intuitively develop a distancing attitude and get inclined toward social media use when they are limited to physical interaction with other people.…”

“…In order to assess the effectiveness of such measures, many studies across the world have investigated the adherence of the general population or of specific groups. Studies from Africa [ 3 6 ], North America [ 7 ], Latin America [ 8 ], East Asia [ 9 , 10 ], South Asia [ 11 ], the Middle East [ 12 ], Oceania [ 13 ] and Europe [ 14 , 15 ] found varying rates of adherence. Factors that were found to be associated with lower adherence to COVID-19 measures include being male, belonging to a lower [ 7 , 8 , 16 , 17 ] or a higher age group [ 18 ], being single [ 17 ], and coming from a disadvantaged background [ 8 , 19 ], although the effects of these risk factors also depend on country-specific contexts.…”

“…An individual's relationship with healthcare services relies strongly on faith (9). High level of awareness and knowledge are correlated with more favorable attitudes toward COVID-19 prevention activities (10)(11)(12). Bangladeshi people are highly superstitious and engulfed with false ideas about the virus spread and diagnostic procedures.…”
