HIV&AIDS continues to pose a public health and developmental threat across the world, ever since it was discovered in 1981. Inadequate knowledge is one of the major barriers to prevention of the spread of HIV&AIDS. More than half of all of new HIV infections occur in young people. The objective of this study was to analyse the levels of HIV related knowledge among university students globally, with a focus on the Sub-Saharan Region. Various electronic databases were searched to review related studies on the levels of HIV and AIDS knowledge among university students. The overall results of the published articles that met the selection criteria showed that there are notable variations in terms of the levels of HIV& AIDS knowledge among the students. The disparities in the levels of HIV&AIDS related knowledge could be attributed to the inconsistencies in the research tools, sample size, academic year of the respondents, geographical locations, social, cultural, ethnicity factors, just to mention a few.This review has revealed that for similar studies in the future, it is important to assess the level of knowledge by using differing approaches that have the potential to provide a greater depth and breadth of information rather than utilizing singular approaches in isolation such as use of quantitative approaches only.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) adalah sejenis virus yang menyerangsistem kekebalan tubuh pada manusia dan menyebabkan Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome(AIDS). Kementrian Kesehatan Republik Indonesia (2022) melaporkan pada Meret 2022 ditemukan329.581 orang dengan HIV. Mahasiwa keperawatan memiliki resiko yang berhubungan langsungdengan pasien HIV/AIDS. Resiko tertularnya HIV/AIDS dapat dihindari jika tenaga kesehatan saatmelaksanakan tindakan secara hati-hati dan menerapkan standar pencegahan umum. Sangat pentingbagi mahasiswa keperawatan untuk memahami konsep, penyebaran, pencegahan, dan pengobatanHIV/AIDS. Tujuan: Mengetahui gambaran tingkat pengetahuan mahasiswa keperawatan terhadappenyakit HIV/AIDS. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan desain deskriptif dengan melibatkan 130mahasiswa prodi keperawatan tingkat 2 di Universitas Muhammadiyah Gombong. Instrumen yangdigunakan adalah kuisioner tingkat pengetahuan perawat tentang penyakit HIV-AIDS denganjumlah pertanyaan sebanyak 30 pertanyaan dengan pilihan jawaban benar dan salah. Hasil:Mayoritas tingkat pengetahuan pengetahuan responden terhadap penyakit HIV/AIDS sebagianbesar memiliki pengetahuan sedang sebanyak 65 responden (50%); dan 52 responden yang memilikipengetahuan tinggi (40%); serta 13 responden memiliki pengetahuan rendah (10%). Kesimpulan:Sebanyak 130 responden memiliki pengetahuan tentang HIV/AIDS sebagian besar memilikipengetahuan dalam kategori sedang.

Improving Willingness to Care and Training Needs for PLWHA from the Perspective of Student Nurses in China: A Qualitative Study

People living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA) deserve equitable and high-quality care. Current HIV and AIDS nursing education may not adequately prepare student nurses for the complexities of caring for PLWHA, and the perspectives of student nurses have not been sufficiently revealed in nursing education research. This study aimed to explore the viewpoints of student nurses with AIDS care experience on methods to improve their care willingness for PLWHA and to identify their educational and training needs. A descriptive qualitative study design was employed, interviewing 18 undergraduate student nurses from 14 tertiary hospitals across 7 provinces in China. Content analysis of transcripts revealed insightful suggestions for improving nursing students’ willingness, such as increased HIV and AIDS education and training, psychological preparation, positive role modeling, raising awareness about AIDS patients, and fostering nursing professionalism. Highlighted education and training needs include progress in HIV and AIDS treatment, preventive measures, psychological support for PLWHA, post-exposure protocols, and HIV-infected risk behaviors. These findings highlight the need for HIV and AIDS education, psychological support training, and stigma-reduction strategies. This study provides valuable insights that could inform policymakers, educators, and healthcare providers on preparing future nurses to meet the complex needs of PLWHA.
