Kockiozyma gen. nov., for Zygozyma suomiensis: the phylogeny of the Lipomycetaceous yeasts

Abstract: In phylogenetic trees based on 18S rRNA gene, 26S rRNA gene, mitochondrial small subunit rRNA gene and the EF-1α gene sequences, and the concatenated sequences of the latter four regions derived from the neighbor-joining method, the four species of the genus Zygozyma constituted four clusters, respectively, with low bootstrap values. In phylogenetic trees based on the concatenated sequences of 18S rRNA genes, 26S rRNA genes, mitochondrial small subunit rRNA genes and the EF-1α genes derived from the neighborjo… Show more

“…Notes : Although the genera Dipodascopsis , Babjevia, and Kockiozyma were not included in these analyses, based on previous analyses ( Kurtzman et al 2007 , Yamazaki et al 2020 , Jindamorakot et al 2012 , Kurtzman et al 2011a ), it is clear that these genera belong to the family Lipomycetaceae and are therefore also included in the Lipomycetales .…”

“…In the experiment, the three dendrograms obtained showed similar patterns in the three regions. Among the yeasts examined, similar patterns were not necessarily seen in the three dendrograms (Jindamorakot et al, 2012;Yamada and Nagahama, 1991;Yamada and Nogawa, 1995). Recently, the socalled D1/D2 region sequences of the large subunit of rRNA or 26S rRNA genes have been widely used in yeast systematics (Fell, 1993;Kurtzman and Robnett, 1998;Kurtzman et al, 2011).…”

“…In the family Lipomycetaceae Novak Zsolt, the seven genera Waltomyces, Zygozyma, Babjevia, Smithiozyma, Kawasakia, Limtongia and Kockiozyma were once introduced [2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. All of them were respectively taxonomic-homogeneous natured, i.e., morphologically, physiologically, chemotaxonomically, genetically and phylogenetically.…”

“…However, Kurtzman et al divided the family into two, i.e., the monophyletic genus Lipomyces sensu and the paraphyletic genus Dipodascopsis emend instead [9,10]. This paper describes the historical surveys in the systematics of the Lipomycetaceous yeasts and recovers the seven genera mentioned above as taxonomic criteria, in addition to the genus Lipomyces sensu stricto, the monotypic genus Dipodascopsis and the new genus Neoaidaea from the phylogenetic and the phenotypic points of view [1,7,8]. Accordingly, the family is comprised of ten genera in total as follows.…”
