Korean Red Ginseng water extract arrests growth of xenografted lymphoma cells

Abstract: BackgroundAlthough numerous studies of the anticancer activities of Korean Red Ginseng (KRG) have been performed, the therapeutic effect of KRG on leukemia has not been fully elucidated. In this study, we investigated the antileukemia activities of KRG and its cellular and molecular mechanisms.MethodsAn established leukemia tumor model induced by xenografted T cell lymphoma (RMA cells) was used to test the therapeutic activity of KRG water extract (KRG-WE). Direct cytotoxic activity of KRG-WE was confirmed by … Show more

“…The cytotoxic effects of Ta-EE on RAW264.7 cells (1 × 10 6 cells/ml) and SW1353 cells (1 × 10 6 cells/ml) were determined by treating the cells with escalating doses of Ta-EE (0, 75, 100, and 300 μ g/ml) for 24 h, and cell viability was determined by MTT assay as reported previously [ 50 , 51 ]. Briefly, the cell culture media were mixed with MTT solution (10 mg/ml in PBS, pH 7.4) and incubated at 37°C for 4 h. A 15% SDS solution was directly added to the mixture to stop the reaction followed by incubation at 37°C for 24 h. Optical density was then measured at 570 nm using a Spectramax 250 microplate reader.…”
