Superconductors D 8000Crystal Structure and Real Structure Investigations on the Intermittent Superconductivity of "La5B2C6". -The phase La5B2C6 is reported in the literature both to become superconducting at 6.9 K as well as to be non-superconducting down to 2 K. These properties can be changed by an appropriate thermal pretreatment of the samples. Detailed preparative, analytical and x-ray structural studies on a single sample which exhibits such intermittent superconductivity show that superconductivity is not an intrinsic property of the phase La5B2C6, but must be ascribed to precipitations of boron-containing La2C3-δ in the C-rich region and αresp. β-La in the metal-rich region. Obviously, the complete coverage of borocarbide crystallites by La can result in a total magnetic shielding of the samples. -(SIMON*, A.; BABIZHETSKYY, V.; OECKLER, O.; MATTAUSCH, H.; BAUER, J.; KREMER, R.
