Music streaming platforms have transformed the music industry and the forms and practices of listening to music. This is most perceptible in Quebec, particularly with respect to local music: while the music industry, due to its historical and political structure, is struggling to meet the challenges of streaming and the latest technological methods of distribution, listeners have turned massively to these platforms and seem to have profoundly digitalized their listening practices by turning away from Quebec's French-language music. How do Quebecers relate to streaming, and, among other things, why does Quebec francophone music, although available on these platforms, seem to be listened to less and less? Based on the results of a qualitative and exploratory survey of Quebec listeners (n=20), this article will provide an analysis of the complex and ambiguous relationship Quebec users have with streaming platforms.
