Abstract

The coastline in Argentinian Patagonia has much to offer in the way of ecotourism. The number of visitors to its natural reserves has steadily increased over the last twenty years. While the Patagonian provinces are banking on significant economic benefits, the industry is under threat from various factors, including damage to the environment, excessively frequented sites, conflicts of interest over the use of the coastline, fears relating to the country's current economic and financial crisis, etc. Urgent action must be taken to ensure the future of sustainable ecotourism in the area.
