Département d'affaires internationales, HEC Montréal Messages clés• L'émergence de la grappe industrielle en IA a été supportée à la fois par les conditions initiales locales ainsi que par les processus d'interaction avec des acteurs étrangers. • La formation de la grappe industrielle l'IA à Montréal suggère que, dès le début, les liens globaux avec d'autres industries et grappes industrielles sont primordiaux. • La naissance d'une grappe industrielle n'est pas un phénomène isolé mais plutôt basé sur les relations entre différents acteurs, processus et communautés qui oeuvrent à différentes échelles géographiques.The paper analyses the emergence of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) cluster in Montreal and investigates two questions: (1) What are the different theoretical interpretations related to the emergence of industrial cluster? And (2) What are the factors underlying the emergence of the AI cluster in Montreal and to what extent have local and global factors been decisive in this respect? The AI cluster emerges through a process that brings into play the interaction between the local initial conditions and the birth of a new industry. Moreover, it also involves an interaction between the local and the global, which is supported by interactions with foreign actors located in different parts of the world. The emergence of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) cluster in MontrealCet article analyse l'émergence de la grappe industrielle en intelligence artificielle (IA) à Montréal. Pour ce faire, nous explorons deux questions relatives à des sujets théoriques et empiriques : i-quelles sont les différentes interprétations relatives à l'émergence des grappes industrielles? ii-quels sont les facteurs sous-jacents à l'émergence de la grappe industrielle en IA à Montréal et dans quelle mesure les facteurs locaux et globaux ont été déterminants à cet égard? Le cas étudié fait ressortir un processus d'émergence qui met en oeuvre une interaction entre les conditions initiales locales présentes et la naissance d'une industrie nouvelle. De plus, l'émergence de la grappe fait aussi intervenir une interaction entre le local et le global, celle-ci étant supportée par des interactions avec des acteurs étrangers provenant de différents emplacements géographiques.
