Abstract

This study aims to analyze the academic studies published on computer literacy in education from a bibliometric perspective. The case study, one of the qualitative research designs, was used in this research. During the study, research themes were searched in Web of Science (WoS) databases using the keyword "Computer Literacy". "Document title, abstract, and keyword" were chosen as the search criteria. The studies published between 1977 and 2021 were included in the analysis. The bibliometric data of 542 academic studies in the categories of educational research and educational disciplines in WoS constitute the data set of the study. In the study, the years with the most publications on computer literacy were 2018 and 2016, the most frequently published languages were English and Spanish, the majority of the published academic studies were articles, and the leading institution that published authors worked or supported was Arizona State University, among Turkish universities the most support for authors came from Hacettepe University. Besides Computers Education magazine being the leading source of publications, the USA and Turkey are the top countries of publication. And after 2009, the number of citations to publications on the subject has increased every year. In scientific publications on computer literacy, it has been found that the concepts of educator, knowledgeable, computer, technology, etc., are used the most. As a result, this study has created a general framework for many components, including publication, author, journal, country, number of citations, collaborations, source types, current research topics, and future research trends, which are pioneers in the field of computer literacy. It is believed that this research will reflect the tendency and trends in computer literacy; in addition, it will play an essential role in conducting other research on the field.
