Marchese (1997) riporta uno studio condotto nella tenuta di San Rossore, nella quale è stata accertata la presenza di nuclei di rinnovazione naturale di pino domestico in popolamenti di età compresa tra 103 e 114 anni, caratterizzati da una densità di copertura che garantisce condizioni idonee di illuminazione al suolo.…”

Negli ecosistemi forestali mediterranei la rinnovazione spontanea è incerta e presenta diversi problemi legati al clima, alla necessità di una sincronia tra gli anni di buona produzione e le condizioni climatiche favorevoli, alla bassa densità dei popolamenti forestali e all'impatto del pascolo sui semenzali e le giovani plantule. È pertanto difficile osservare questo fenomeno in condizioni naturali e le aree in cui si verifica rappresentano una grande opportunità per analizzare le sue dinamiche. Un caso di rinnovazione naturale di Pinus pinea L. è stato osservato ed analizzato in una zona dunale costiera della Sardegna, dove è presente una pineta artificiale di circa 65 anni. La ricerca ha seguito più fasi: i) l'analisi temporale e spaziale degli schemi di rinnovazione mediante ortofoto relative agli anni dal 1954 al 2011; ii) l'analisi dendrometrica della rinnovazione in seguito al campionamento sul campo; iii) lo studio della distribuzione tridimensionale della rinnovazione mediante lo Stand Visualization System (SVS). I risultati hanno suggerito la presenza di due cicli di rinnovazione distribuitisi secondo modelli spaziali differenti: una distribuzione a gruppi nel primo ciclo e una distribuzione secondo individui isolati nel successivo. Sebbene lo studio sia stata sviluppato in un'area di ridotte dimensioni, i risultati rappresentano un ulteriore passo nella comprensione delle dinamiche che guidano la rinnovazione spontanea del pino domestico. Essi trovano inoltre interesse pratico nelle implicazioni gestionali volte a stimolare la rinnovazione naturale della specie in altre parti del bacino del Mediterraneo.Parole chiave: Pinus pinea L.; rinnovazione naturale; ambiente dunale; rinnovazione a gruppi. The North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) is the most important source of winter atmospheric variability in the northern hemisphere. NAO inversely reflects the precipitation regime, which plays a fundamental role in Mediterranean regions, e.g., by recharging the water table. As no attempt has been made thus far to analyze the relationship between NAO variability and tree radial growth in coastal Mediterranean conifers, this paper identifies the monthly, winter, annual, and decadal influence of NAO on tree-ring chronologies of six planted Pinus pinea L. populations distributed along the Tyrrhenian coasts of central Italy. Through multidimensional analyses, we identified tree-ring chronology associations in two main groups. The influence of NAO on the regional chronologies was identified with correlation functions for the comparison period between 1949 and 2003 at both annual and decadal timescales. Results indicate that winter NAO influence on radial tree growth at annual and decadal timescales may depend on geographical location, site characteristics, and the age structure of tree-ring chronologies. These results contribute to a better understanding of the P. pinea coastal forest ecology and provide evidence of large-scale climatic forcings that influence forest Mediterranean ecosystems.
