“…It is dated to the third/fourth centuries by comparison with Mouton's céramique noire épaisse from Ed-Dur (141), but the fact is that céramique noire épaisse does not occur at all in Mouton's third-/fourth-century ''PIR D'' phase at Ed-Dur and is confined instead to the PIR C phase (first/second AD) and earlier. Whilst the closely related céramique grise does occur in the later period, it is only found at that time without the ridged decoration that is characteristic of the Abu Dhabi sherds (142). The Abu Dhabi sites are probably therefore at least a century or two earlier than stated.…”

“…It can be said that such wares do not equate with those published at the three Mesopotamian sites cited or, indeed, from sites in Arabia with known Sasanian-period levels such as Ed-Dur and Kush (147). In fact the incised ''chalky yellow buff'' ware sounds very similar to the white wares that are ubiquitous during the Islamic period, especially the later Islamic period (148), the ''tan chocolate chip'' sounds similar to a late Islamic ware known from Ras al-Khaimah (149), and it is possible that the ''fine orange wares'' are related to northeast Arabian red ware (150). By contrast, it is important to note the absence amongst the EPS material of Sasanian-period coarse wares that are common at Ed-Dur and Kush, despite the fact that many parallels are to be found between the pottery from these two areas in earlier periods (151).…”

“…1) has been excavated since 1986 by the French archaeological mission in Sharjah (UAE). Its occupation started in the late third century BC and continued until the middle of the third century AD (Mouton 2008). In order to understand the process of abandonment of the site, the remains preserved in area H, identified as belonging to the final phase of the site (period PIR.D, second-mid-third century AD), were explored during the 2010 and 2011 seasons.…”
