El presente trabajo estudia los conceptos fundacionales de la teoría constitucional de Carl Schmitt, tal como ella es concebida en Teoría de la Constitución (1928), a la luz de su giro institucional. Para ello, primero se presenta el decisionismo schmittiano, plasmado en sus principales escritos de la década de 1920, incluido Teoría de la Constitución. En segundo lugar, se exhibe el giro institucional que sufrió su obra, acaecido en la década de 1930, que supuso el abandono -parcial- de su propuesta decisionista. A continuación, se analizan las categorías de la teoría constitucional schmittiana a la luz de su aparato conceptual institucional. Se concluye que dichos conceptos, tal como son formulados en Teoría de la Constitución, no son compatibles con el institucionalismo schmittiano, lo que exige su reconceptualización.
