Lab2go â?? A Repository to Locate Online Laboratories

Abstract: This paper discusses the creation of a common framework to describe online laboratories according to the semantic web technology. The so called Web 3.0 technology is actually growing daily and is proposed to be one of the leading Web technologies within the next years. Improved search mechanisms and facet based browsing are only some key features which enhance the data handling within the repository. Online laboratories are interactive experiments which are available over the Internet and can be divided into t… Show more

“…Therefore a virtual/remote lab (VRL) denotes a combined LCS which can operate with simulation and real instruments. Similar definitions are found in other paper [6]. In some examples of LCS are the following: RLs for measuring instrument [7][8], VRLs for program microcontroller [1], RLs for networking [9], general RLs [10] [11].…”

“…Labvirtual [3] and Mocho [4]. Its use has also been enlarged by the international cooperation which contributes to promote Engineering Education and training in the present scenario of "global engineering", [5][6][7][8][9][10]. This resource not only increases student awareness and motivation in using real data, but also exposes them to other education systems, curricula and learning tools.…”

“…We identified five main solutions in the research literature, namely the GOLC consortium's Lab2Go 9 portal [4], the Library of Labs (LiLa) 10 [15] portal created by a European consortium using MIT's iLab Shared Architecture (ISA) 11 [10], the LabShare 12 [6] portal initiated by an Australian consortium, and the University of Deusto's WebLab-Deusto 13 [8].…”
