Abstract: Clinical guidelines for gastric cancer treatment recommend intraoperative peritoneal lavage cytology to detect free cancer cells. Patients with positive cytology require neoadjuvant chemotherapy instead of instant resection, and conversion to negative cytology results in improved survival.
