Labial-Nasal Evaluation for Nasal Floor Reconstruction With the New Triangular Flap in Unilateral Cleft Lip Repair

Abstract: In this study, we present a modified technique for primary cleft lip repair with a rotation triangular flap from the cleft lateral side to reconstruct the nasal floor; and evaluate the outcome compared with traditional Millard repair. 40 patients with unilateral cleft lip were included in this research. The patients were divided into 2 groups; 17 patients treated with the Millard technique, and 23 patients treated with the newly modified technique. 14 measurement indexes were employed to evaluate the nose-lip… Show more

“…Patients with nonsyndromic SMCP who visited the West China Hospital of Stomatology between 2008 and 2021 were reviewed and enrolled according to the following criteria: documented with evident VPI and received FP or PPF as the primary surgical procedure; complete record of preoperative and postoperative perceptual speech assessment and nasopharyngoscopy examination; a follow-up period longer than 6 months 20,22,34,35 ; no adjunctive procedures with FP or PPF performed during the primary repair of SMCP; no perioperative speech therapy or secondary surgical procedure delivered until the last follow-up recorded in this study; and cleft lip, if present, repaired by a modified rotation-advancement technique. 36,37 Patients who had syndromes, hypotonia, central neural disorders, or other nasopharyngeal operations, including tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, were excluded. 16,38 The research protocol was approved by the institutional review board of West China Hospital of Stomatology (no.…”

“…The design of the cleft lip repairs followed a modification of Millard's technique. 16 The markings, incisions, and closure were made as shown in Figure 1. Noticeably, the distance between points 6 and 2 and that between points 6 and 3 should be equal.…”
