Labrenzbactin from a coral-associated bacterium Labrenzia sp.

Abstract: A new catecholate-containing siderophore, labrenzbactin (1), was isolated from the fermentation broth of a coral-associated bacterium Labrenzia sp. The structure and absolute configuration of 1 was determined by spectroscopic methods and Marfey's analysis. Overall, 1 showed antimicrobial activity against Ralstonia solanacearum SUPP1541 and Micrococcus luteus ATCC9341 with MIC values of 25 and 50 µg ml −1 , respectively, and cytotoxicity against P388 murine leukemia cells with an IC 50 of 13 µM. 1234567890();,:… Show more

“…As a part of our ongoing screening program to discover new natural products from coral-associated bacteria, we have recently reported a catecholate siderophore, labrenzbactin, from an alphaproteobacterium Labrenzia [17] and an unsaturated fatty acid with unique methylation pattern from a gammaproteobacterium Microbulbifer [18]. Herein, we report the fermentation, isolation, structure determination, and bioactivity of two new keto fatty acids, (6E,8Z)-5-oxo-6,8-tetradecadienoic acid (1) and its (6E,8E)-isomer 2, from a coral-associated actinomycete Micrococcus sp.…”

“…Sea anemone Radianthus crispus was purchased from an aquarium vendor in Nagasaki, Japan. Strain SI9 was isolated from its outer tissue specimen according to the method described previously [19], and identified as a member of genus Vibrio on the basis of 98.6% similarity in the 16S rRNA gene sequence (1458 nucleotides;…”
