Abstract:We show that Lagrangian measurements in active turbulence bear imprints of turbulent and anomalous streaky hydrodynamics leading to a self-selection of persistent trajectories-Lévy walksover diffusive ones. This emergent dynamical heterogeneity results in a super-diffusive first passage distribution which could lead to biologically advantageous motility. We then go beyond singleparticle statistics to show that for the pair-dispersion problem as well, active flows are at odds with inertial turbulence. Our study… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
