Abstract:In a context of weak state presence and deteriorating democracy, illegal land appropriation advanced in Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia and Perú, while drug trafficking, illegal gold extraction and other illicit activities also proliferated, notably in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela.
