Land use in selected erosion-risk areas of Tertiary low hills in Slovenia

Abstract: Most vineyards inABSTRACT: In this article we determine the potential erosion risk of sites with respect to surface morphology and how it is related to the distribution of individual types of land use. We investigated the relationship between relief factors affecting erosion risk (elevation, slope, and aspect of the surface) and types of land use (arable land, vineyards, orchards, grassland, woodland, and built-up and other areas) in six 24 km 2 sectors in Tertiary low hill areas in Slovenia: Koprska brda, Brk… Show more

“…45-1) presented a detailed study of erosion processes in Slovenia with an emphasis on soil erosion on agricultural land (Komac and Zorn 2005). The article showed (see also Hrvatin, Perko and Petek, 2006) that there is a major lack of measuring erosion processes in Slovenia, which was one of the reasons for undertaking detailed studies of erosion processes (including soil erosion) in the following years in Slovene Istria (Zorn 2007a;2007b;2008a;Zorn and Petan 2007;. In 2005 and 2006 we measured soil erosion and surface runoff on a weekly basis in the flysch Dragonja River basin in three different land use areas: on bare soil in an olive grove, an overgrown meadow, and forest.…”

“…The selected texts were analysed according to the procedures of grounded theory, also known as inductive theory (coPe 2005, Glaser 2007, corbin & straUss 2008. This is a research method used to develop a theory that is based on collected and analysed data.…”

“…Some of them present land use in general, in a particular area (Kranjc 1972;Natek 1985b;Perko 1987), and later contributions in this area (as in human geography as a whole) focused on the problem aspect of studying land use and/or on presenting new methods (Bat 1990;Gams 1992;Gabrovec 1995). The use of GIS tools in particular opened up new opportunities to study land use (Lóczy and Szalai 1993;Hrvatin, Perko, and Petek 2006;Vijulie et al 2012), generated new methodological approaches (Petek 2002(Petek , 2005, and made possible the development of an exceptionally comprehensive and seminal article that is frequently cited on modern findings on land use in Slovenia (Gabrovec and Kladnik 1997).…”
