“…Other landslide inventories in southern Italy focus on small areas (< 120 km 2 ) and report high landslide densities, with landslides covering between 3 and 40% of the study areas (e.g. Conforti et al ., , ; Bianchini et al ., ; Goswami et al ., ; Santangelo et al ., ). There is a large body of risk‐oriented and monitoring landslide studies in southern Italy (e. g. Terranova et al ., ; Bianchini et al ., ; Giocoli et al ., ), but few studies have evaluated landslides from a landscape evolution or sediment supply perspective (Lazzari and Schiattarella, ; Goswami et al ., , ; Santangelo et al ., ; Antronico et al ., ).…”

“…The event was particularly severe and destructive enough to cause the Presidency of the Council of Ministers to issue, for the study area, four ordinances for natural disasters. The disasters have damaged large areas of the territory, particularly affecting the road network and private construction, as well as economic activity in the study area and northern Calabria (Conforti, Muto, Rago, & Critelli, 2014). The study area is affected by many landslides, largescale landslides and deep-seated gravitational and tectono-gravitational slope deformations (Iovine & Tansi, 1998), the distribution of which is often controlled by the lithology and geo-structural pattern.…”

In the Basilicata region (southern Italy), mass movements cause considerable damage to human activity and property every year (Bentivenga, Palladino, & Caputi, 2012;Caniani, Pascale, Sdao, & Sole, 2008;Conforti, Pascale, Pastore, Pepe, Sdao & Sole, 2012b;Conforti, Pascale, Pepe, Sdao, & Sole, 2013;Dal Sasso et al, 2014;Pascale, Sdao, & Sole, 2010;Pascale et al, 2013;Sdao & Simeone, 2007).…”
