Laparoscopic Abdominoperineal Resection

Abstract: A rectal cancer located within the narrow confines of the bony pelvis has for centuries been the bugbear of abdominal surgeons. Advances in operative technique, surgical technology, imaging methods, and multimodal therapies have dramatically improved the prospects of this once fatal disease. Despite the considerable progress, cancer of the rectum remains one of the most challenging conditions encountered by colorectal surgeons in present times.
