Laparoscopic Outcomes of Adnexal Surgery in Older Children and Adolescents

Abstract: There was no difference between menarche and likelihood of torsion (p¼.199). In 9 (8.5%) cases, additional surgery was performed including appendectomy and paratubal/paraovarian CY. Only 2 (1.9%) cases had repeat CY at a later date. 4 cases presented to the ER post-operatively and 2 were admitted for symptoms other than CP (Table 1). There were no cases of CP. Conclusions: These results reaffirm the safety and efficacy of LSC CY for ODCs. Despite the theoretical risk of CP after IO cyst spillage, our results s… Show more

“…This practice narrowed the differences between the three groups or two groups to a certain extent. Thus, a detailed grouping and precise indicators on these tumors are necessary, which is crucial when deciding to opt for reasonable treatment [3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]. Second, some cases were not performed using DW imaging and DCE-MRI in our early study.…”

“…Ovarian tumors remain the rst indication for gynecologic surgery [1][2]. Laparoscopic tumor exfoliation or unilateral ovariectomy can be performed if the mass is a small BeEOT [3][4][5][6]. Young patients with BEOTs can undergo conservative surgery to preserve fertility or maintain ovarian function [7][8][9][10], whereas patients with MEOTs require the radical resection of tumors, followed by adjuvant chemotherapy [10][11][12][13][14].…”

“…Ovarian cysts are the most common pathology of adnexa in all age groups in the paediatric population. Histopathological examinations of lesions from adnexa usually reveal non-cancerous cysts (benign or functional ovarian cysts), which are estimated to account for about 58% of cases, and non-malignant tumours [1,4]. Malignant tumours account for about 8% of all cases [5].…”

“…Aspiration of the contents of the cyst may be performed in the case of cysts that are detected accidentally during another laparoscopic procedure or in the case of large cysts that restrict the operating space [7]. In the case of functional ovarian cysts, simple aspiration and fenestration have a higher risk of recurrence than a complete cyst resection [1]. Large cysts are aspirated by some operators under the control of ultrasonography because of the direct visualisation of the cyst itself before laparoscopic cystectomy [7,10].…”
