Laparoscopic repair of femoral hernia

Abstract: Laparoscopic repair of inguinal hernia is mini-invasive and has confirmed effects. Femoral hernia could be repaired through the laparoscopic procedures for inguinal hernia. These procedures have clear anatomic view in the operation and preoperatively undiagnosed femoral hernia could be confirmed and treated. Lower recurrence ratio was reported in laparoscopic procedures compared with open procedures for repair of femoral hernia. The technical details of laparoscopic repair of femoral hernia, especially the dif… Show more

“…As compared to TAPP (Laparoscopic Transabdominal PrePeritoneal), TEP has the advantage of not entering the peritoneal cavity and therefore reducing abdominal viscera lesions, especially in patients with intra-abdominal adherence. However, some surgeons avoid or contraindicate the TEP and even the TAPP approach in patients with previous lower abdominal operations because of the difficulty to dissect the preperitoneal space and to prevent intra-abdominal organ injuries 22 , 33 , 34 .…”

“…Femoral hernia is also repaired by laparoscopy in adults [14]. As a result of wide defects of adult's femoral region, massive dissection and graft use is needed.…”

“…Minor complications include wound infections and hematoma, ecchymosis, urinary retention, recurrences, hydrocele, nerve cuts, and nerve compression. Major complications that might occur include hemorrhage, vas deferens cuts in men, testicular atrophy, intestinal or bladder injuries [ 10 ]. In our case, no postoperative complication was observed.…”
