Laparoscopic Views of Obturator Hernia

Abstract: In this report, we highlighted the clinical manifestations of obturator hernia and focused on laparoscopic views. Given its rarity and vague symptoms, the early diagnosis of obturator hernia presents a challenge. Although delays in diagnosis cause high rates of morbidity and mortality, CT with multi-planar reformations provides an excellent means of preoperative diagnosis. Despite current progress of laparoscopic surgery, its indication is believed to be limited only in elective obturator hernia repairs becaus… Show more

“…Last, laparoscopic management is considered as a better method in exploring and operating for the presence of occult lesions on the contralateral side. 18,20,21 In our study, the feasibility and potential advantages of laparoscopic management over the open approach was demonstrated again. The bleeding amount for laparoscopic versus open surgery was 3.6 ± 1.2 and 20.5 ± 8.5 mL (P < 0.01), and the postoperative hospital stay was 6.3 ± 1.3 and 9.4 ± 2.2 days (P < 0.01), respectively.…”

“…Endoscopic surgery has the advantages of less trauma and postoperative pain, and rapid recovery of digestive tract function. Many studies have focused on the application of endoscopic surgery for OH ( 14 ). However, because most patients with OH have an acute intestinal obstruction, perforation, necrosis, or peritonitis, emergency laparotomy is still the main treatment for OH.…”
