Laplace’s Pressure Induced Rhombohedral Phase in the Scandia-Stabilized Zirconia Ceramics

Abstract: Grain-size effect on the conductivity and phase composition of scandia stabilized zirconia ceramics produced from DKKK (Japan) powder with composition 89 mol.% ZrO 2 + 10 mol. % Sc 2 O 3 + 1 mol. % CeO 2 was established. It was shown using Xray phase analysis that decreasing the grain size of ceramics from 16 to 0.6 µm leads to formation of rhombohedral phase. For finegrained material, anisotropic properties of material are fixed clearly in Arrhenius plots of ionic conductivity.
