Large Cohort Screening of G6PD Deficiency and the Mutational Spectrum in the Dongguan District in Southern China

Abstract: BackgroundGlucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency is a common enzymatic disorder of the erythrocytes that affects 400 million people worldwide. We developed a PCR-reverse dot blot (RDB) assay to screen twenty genotypes of seventeen Chinese G6PD mutations and investigate the spectrum of G6PD deficiency mutations in Dongguan District, Guangdong Province, in southern China.MethodThe PCR-RDB assay consists of multiplex PCR amplification of seven fragments in the G6PD target sequence of wild-type and mu… Show more

“…The morbidity is higher than the data of the Canadian Paediatric Surveillance Program from 2002 to 2004 (20 in 93 cases) [26]. The reason might be the incidence of G-6-PD deficiency varied largely depending on the specific geographic region [27]. …”

“…DNA isolated from blood was widely used inforensics 1 ; diseases diagnosis 2,3 ; mutation and polymorphism identifications 4,5 ; neonatal methylation study 6 ; and pathogens detection in human and livestock 3,7,8 . In hematology, DNA isolated from blood was used in diagnosis of leukemia 9 , thalassemia 10 , polycythemia 11 and G6PD deficiency 12 . Blood provide high yield and high quality of DNA as compared to other sources such as saliva, hair, Guthrie cards, and buccalcells 13,14 .…”
