In the present paper, numerical analysis of an electrically conducting fluid under the influence of a magnetic field in an inclined cylindrical annulus is presented. The inner and outer walls are kept at constant temperatures, and the top and bottom walls are assumed to be adiabatic. The numerical method used to solve the nonlinear governing equations of the problem is finite volume scheme. The computational results reveal that the effect of transverse magnetic field is more significant than that of the axial magnetic field on the average Nusselt number. Also, it is found that when the magnetic field is perpendicular to the axis of annulus, the average Nusselt number decreases from 7.8 to 4.7 with an increase in Ha from 0 to 60.

“…The grid independence test of the numerical solution was performed for a relatively large Ra  1.89x10 5 using non-uniform grids consisting in 30x30x30 , 40x40x40and 50x50x50 nodes with proper refinement near the walls from a factor of expansion/reduction of 5% (Padilla and Silveira-Neto, 2008). Comparing the numerical results between coarse and medium grids in relation to the fine grid, the relative differences in the maximum horizontal velocity are of 0.79% and 0.12%, and the relative differences in the mean Nusselt numbers are 2.14% and 0.60%, respectively, The original numbers are listed in Table 1.…”

This paper presents a numerical study of fluid flow and natural convection inside cubical cavities using the finite volume method with second order schemes. Cubical cavities of various sizes with three different thermal configurations were considered, where two opposite vertical walls are isothermal and the other walls are either adiabatic or conducting (with linear temperature variation). The numerical simulations were performed for air and gases with Prandtl number 0.71 under the influence of variable Rayleigh numbers covering the range 10 3 -10 7 . The effects of the three thermal configurations in terms of velocities and temperatures were investigated for both steady and unsteady flow regimes. Additionally, the magnitudes of local and average Nusselt numbers in each direction of the cubical cavity were scrutinized. Using conducting walls, the heat transfer analysis in different directions divulged that the heat flow through the top/bottom walls surpasses 1/3 of the total heat flow of the cubical cavity. Overall, the collection of numerical results demonstrates good agreement when compared with experimental-based and numerical-based publications.
