Large-Scale Production of 119mTe and 119Sb for Radiopharmaceutical Applications

Abstract: Radionuclides find widespread use in medical technologies for treating and diagnosing disease. Among successful and emerging radiotherapeutics, 119 Sb has unique potential in targeted therapeutic applications for low-energy electron-emitting isotopes. Unfortunately, developing 119 Sb-based drugs has been slow in comparison to other radionuclides, primarily due to limited accessibility. Herein is a production method that overcomes this challenge and expands the avai… Show more

“…XANES spectroscopy can be used to determine metal oxidation states in solution, which is generally done by comparing spectral characteristics, such as edge energy to known standards for a given element . XANES spectra at the Np L III ‐edge of all four Np‐343 ligand complexes are shown in Figure , and these results highlight the challenge in using XANES to determine Np oxidation states.…”

“…Recently, Kozimor and co-workers have discovered a new way for the large-scale isolation and production of 119 Sb that may enable targeted radiotherapeutic applications (see Figure 1). 2 This radionuclide shows special promise of potentially delivering lethal doses of radiation to targeted diseased cells, reducing side-effects by leaving adjacent healthy tissue unharmed.…”
