Large-scale synthesis of metastable TiO2(B) nanosheets with atomic thickness and their photocatalytic properties

Abstract: A one-pot method was developed to prepare atomic thick nanosheets of metastable TiO(2)(B), which has a unique open structure owing to the coupling of intrinsic channels and the preferentially exposed (010) facets. They display high activity of doping due to the rapid incorporation and diffusion along these open channels.

“…Synthesis.-Nanocrystalline TiO 2 (B) was synthesized following a recently reported method by Xiang et al 61 Briefly, TiCl 3 (SigmaAldrich, 99.995%) was hydrolyzed under argon atmosphere using a mixture of ethylene glycol (Sigma-Aldrich, 99.8%) and deionized water. 61 In a typical synthesis, 0.3 g of TiCl 3 were dissolved in 38 mL ethylene glycol and 2 mL deionized water.…”

“…The Cu nanowires were first uniformly coated with a layer of TiO 2 (B) through a solvothermal process with ethylene glycol as the solvent and TiCl 3 as the precursor. 30 By precisely controlling the reaction time, well-defined TiO 2 (B) nanosheets were formed, giving rise to Cu@TiO 2 (B) core-shell structures. Owing to their high reactivity, the Cu nanowires were gradually oxidized and removed in the acidic solution during the prolonged solvothermal treatment.…”

“…217 However, in sharp contrast, ultrathin TiO 2 NSs showed a high catalytic activity as a result of a shorter migration time, which suppressed recombination. 218 Fig. 21a shows the process of producing photogenerated electrons and holes at the TiO 2 surface, where Pt acts as an electron skin (Fig.…”
