“…This cartilage has focused the investigations concerning calcifications on the infrahyoid area (Barut et al, 2020). These have shown that the TC is not a constant structure: its prevalence is variable just like its appearance and ossification patterns (Ahmad et al, 2005;Alqahtani et al, 2016;Wilson et al, 2017;Pinheiro et al, 2018;Vatansever et al, 2018;Barut et al, 2020). The lack of information on this piece of the human body has led experts to explore the calcifications involving it, and to find out whether its presence leads more often to abnormal calcifications in the thyrohyoid area (Vatansever et al, 2018).…”

“…The case reported here shows a calcification of the right lateral thyrohyoid ligament in continuity with the right GHH, but the presence of the TC is not clear. Thyrohyoid ligament calcifications are mostly related to the presence of the TC, although there is no consensus on all typologies; very few mention complete thyrohyoid ligament calcifications (Pinheiro et al, 2018). This information gap is due to the lack of reported cases of this type of calcification that is only referenced as a possible abnormality (Soerdjbalie-Maikoe and Van Rijn, 2008;Alqahtani et al, 2016), but has never been demonstrated and, therefore, studied.…”

“…Anatomical variation of these throat structures [ [37] , [38] , [39] ] and unusual patterns of ossification can complicate interpretation [ 40 ]. Some variations can be mistaken for trauma-induced alterations [ 41 ] or other medical issues [ 42 ].…”

“…The shape of laryngeal cartilages is one important character that determines how the glottis opens or closes and tension is placed on the vocal folds (3)(4)(5). Shape variation of the human larynx is substantial (6)(7)(8)(9)(10)(11). The most important source of shape variation is sex (12)(13)(14), but some morphometric measures of the larynx are more variable than others even among sexes.…”
