Background: Observation of patients with functional voice problems with typical musculoskeletal symptoms revealed the frequent adoption of a characteristic head position in excessive anterior extension, a lack of coordination, and sense of space. So far, there are lack of standards and the difficulty in obtaining objective parameters in the study of both voice and abnormal posture disrupted at a functional level.Aims: Assessment of the impact of physiotherapeutic methods, associated with improving posture and movement patterns based on existing voice disorders, on enhancing voice emission. Material and methods:The impact of physiotherapeutic treatment on the voice emission was evaluated. Self-constructed questionnaire and validated scales: Vocal Tract Discomfort (VTD) and Laryngeal Manual Therapy Palpatory Evaluation (LMTPE) were used.Results: Teachers accounted for 86.4% of the participants in the study. The maximum phonation time has not changed significantly in either of the groups (except for 1 measurement). Therapy resulted in a reduction in the frequency and intensity of symptoms. The head angle in standing position and the chest angle in sitting positions improved significantly in the study group. Conclusions:Physiotherapy for altering head angle and improving head and neck alignment in a neutral position has an impact on reducing the frequency and intensity of symptoms associated with functional voice problems. Normalizing muscle tone, the larynx alignment and improving the mobility of structures near the vocal tract in patients with excessive head protraction has the effect of improving maximum time results and reducing symptoms.

Objective: to verify the videolaryngostroboscopic characteristics of teachers with vocal complaints. Methods: 32 teachers with a mean of 39.15 years old underwent a medical examination of videolaryngostroboscopy. Videolaryngostroboscopies were evaluated by consensus and simultaneously by three otorhinolaryngologists using a specific protocol. Data were analyzed descriptively and by Spearman's Correlation test, with a significance level of 5% (p≤0.05). Results: most teachers had normal glottic closure (65.62%). All of them presented: high symmetry of vocal fold vibration (92.18%), high amplitude of mucosal wave vibration (90.31%), and high presence of mucous wave (90.93%). There was a significant positive correlation between normal glottic closure and amplitude of vibration (p=0.008) and between amplitude of vibration and mucosal wave (p=0). There was a significant negative correlation between altered glottic closure and amplitude of vibration (p=0.003); between altered glottic closure and normal closure (p=0); and between symmetry of vibration and global constriction of the laryngeal vestibule (p=0). Conclusion: the majority of teachers, even with vocal complaints and some with the presence of vocal nodules, had normal glottal closure and all had averages above 90% in the parameters: symmetry of vocal fold vibration, amplitude of mucosal wave vibration, and presence of mucous wave. In this group, the greater the normal glottic closure, the greater the amplitude of vibration of the mucous wave, and what the greater the presence of the wave, and the less the global constriction of the laryngeal vestibule, the greater the symmetry of vocal fold vibration.

Context In osteopathic manipulative medicine, palpatory tests are used as a primary element for osteopathic assessment. Objectives The primary aim of the study is to explore the knowledge and use of palpatory tests in detecting somatic dysfunction, the second is to assess the knowledge about the inhibitory tests among osteopathic practitioners in Italy, England, and France. Methods A quantitative survey was conducted, between March and May 2021, through the administration of a semi-structured questionnaire. The participants had to answer 8 questions. Results 2,223 e-mails were sent: 423 manual therapy professionals participated in the survey. Subsequently, only the responses of the 385 osteopaths (280 Italian, 23 French and 82 British) were included in the data processing; the 38 excluded were physiotherapists and chiropractors. The most significative outcomes for the total sample were found to: years of working experience and knowledge of a palpatory test that allows to discriminate two dysfunctional anatomical structures was significant with a χ2=12.509 (p-value <0.006); 68.5% answered in the affirmative to this last question. It was found that less work experience is associated with knowledge of a palpatory test to discriminate two dysfunctional structures. The correlation between years of work experience and knowledge of the inhibitory test was explored with the result being statistically significant (p value <0.001). 64.4% know and use the inhibitory test. 39.1% base the inhibitory test on tissue change. Conclusions The clinical practice of Italian and French professionals, makes possible to establish the hierarchy between two somatic dysfunctions with respect to English sample. The osteopaths reported a wider use of the tissue change parameters rather than pain reported by the patient. Furthermore, more than half of the sample-based their discriminatory test on the musculoskeletal and fascial systems. There is a vast knowledge of the inhibition test among osteopaths.
