“…A meta-analysis of 29 randomized prospective clinical trials showed that when LMA was used during general anaesthesia complications like hoarseness, coughing, and laryngospasm during emergence were less compared to use of endotracheal tube. 19 The hemodynamic response by tracheal intubation as well as extubation was much more compared to that of insertion and removal of laryngeal mask, as shown by our results. This was related to laryngoscopy which increases airway manipulation and increased release of catecholamines during tracheal intubation; this may be of concern in patients with high cardiac risk or low cardiovascular reserve.…”

“…In the literature, the first attempt success rates for PLMA were reported to range between 76% and 100% (6,7). In a report of patients receiving general anaesthesia, the use of the supraglottic airway device resulted in a statistically lower incidence of complications such as laryngospasm and coughing compared to endotracheal intubation (8).…”

“…Since SGA allows spontaneous breathing or controlled mechanical ventilation and SGA-related complications like mucosal trauma, hematoma, and arytenoid dislocation are rare compared to endotracheal intubation or rigid bronchoscopy (where additional equipment like jet ventilators are needed), SGA devices have numerous well-known advantages (30). The use of the i-gel SGA (Intersurgical Inc., Wokingham, UK) shows fewer complications (i.e., blood staining, sore throat, and dysphagia) compared to other SGA and commonly is used for therapeutic fiberoptic bronchoscopy (31)(32)(33).…”
