Starting from the premises of geocritics, the poetics of space and literary geographies, this work is a journey which begins from a conception of traditional symbolic space to reach the literary space from an educational conception that prioritizes the meaningful learning of literature, the reading and literary training and is also adjacent to the didactics of social sciences. From an interdisciplinary perspective, special emphasis is placed on the socializing function of literature for reading promotion and the importance of reading literary classics in contexts of updating that, in this case, materialize in community spaces and heritage promotion —not only conservation. In this sense, we present the educational achievements and pending challenges of a didactic experience carried out during the last four years with students of Teaching (Early Childhood and Primary Education): a historical-literary route through the city of Valencia in which the promotion of classics arises from pedagogical thought and shared reading, under the principles of dialogical learning, with a communicative approach and the integrated treatment of language and literature.
