Laser Capture Microdissection in Dentistry

Abstract: Laser capture microdissection (LCM) allows for the microscopic procurement of specific cell types from tissue sections that can then be used for gene expression analysis. According to the recent development of the LCM technologies and methodologies, the LCM has been used in various kinds of tissue specimens in dental research. For example, the real-time polymerase-chain reaction (PCR) can be performed from the formaldehyde-fixed, paraffin-embedded, and immunostained sections. Thus, the advance of immuno-LCM me… Show more

“…Laser capture microdissection (LCM) allows microscopic procurement of specific cell types from tissue sections that can then be used for gene expression analysis (Chokechanachaisakul et al,2010b; Emmert‐Buck et al,1996; Murray,2007). Recently, we have reported a method for immune‐LCM in the formaldehyde‐fixated paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue sections (Kaneko et al,2009) or nonstained FFPE tissue sections that had been demineralized (Kaneko et al,2010, 2011).…”

“…Various modifications of this basic working have been developed. The PixCell system (Arcturus, MDS Analytical Technology, Sunnyvale, CA, USA) uses a dual laser system: the ultraviolet (UV) laser to incise and infrared (IR) laser to gather cells (Chokechanachaisakul et al , ). The PixCell LCM system is the most preferred LCM system in use (Chokechanachaisakul et al , ).…”
